Australian super guide
Australian superannuation guarantee explained
Superannuation is retirement saving paid by an employer on top of, or sometimes as part of, a remuneration package depending on the employment agreement.
In short
The general super guarantee rate is 12% from 1 July 2026. It is usually shown separately because it is not cash take-home pay.
Why super matters when comparing pay
Two jobs with the same salary can have different total value if one pays more super or offers salary packaging. Check whether a quoted package is “plus super” or “including super”.
It is not always based on every dollar
Eligibility, ordinary time earnings, maximum contribution bases and employment arrangements can affect the amount due. The calculator’s 12% figure is a simple annual illustration.
See the ATO's super guarantee rates, or use the Australian take-home pay calculator to see super alongside estimated net pay.
